Joe Hockey is used to being in front of the cameras, but behind them? That's a different story.

Having just finished up the morning media rounds at Parliament House on Friday, Hockey was "in a good mood," said Huffington Post Australia political editor, Karen Barlow. On his way to a doorstop interview, the treasurer turned the tables on Channel Nine cameraman, Tyson Scott.

"Joe was talking about what's ahead, the pow wow with state and territory counterparts," Barlow said of this week's summit of treasurers from around Australia.

"They already have an agreement stitched up about the GST and a threshold on online goods, so in a light-hearted mood, he took the camera off the cameraman."

Cameraman Hockey then had a rare turn behind the camera instead of in front of it. Channel Nine reported Hockey jokingly asked Scott about "what's the latest gossip in the parliamentary press gallery"... to which Scott replied with a scorching zinger:

"Well Hockey's been whispering a little bit ... and we're all thinking that there might be another leak."

Channel Nine reported Hockey also tried the same camera-stealing trick with another one of their cameramen on Thursday.

HuffPost Australia video editor Emily Verdouw said the treasurer's interviewing technique "looks alright."

"He's far too close to the interview subject, but he's doing OK," Verdouw said.

"It looks like he's done it before."

It's not the first time Hockey has surprised journalists; remember when he jumped in on this Sunrise live cross to New York?

It's always fun to drop in on the Sunrise crew... even when they're not expecting it!

And, just because it's Friday and you deserve it, behold the most lingering image ever captured of our treasurer.
