The Daily Show Adds Australian Comedian Ronny Chieng To Lineup

Aussie Comedian Ronny Chieng Will Join The Daily Show

Australian comedian Ronny Chieng will join the lineup of The Daily Show when it relaunches with a new host later this month.

Fans worldwide went into a state of near-mourning when Daily Show host Jon Stewart announced in February he would be leaving the show. Stewart's final appearance aired last month, but the show's new guard was quickly installed. Former Daily Show correspondent Trevor Noah was named Stewart's successor and a new team has slowly been revealed.

Today, Chieng was announced as one of the show's newest correspondents.

Malaysian-born and Melbourne-based, Chieng has been a regular on the Aussie comedy scene for years. His arrival was soon marked by several "best newcomer" awards in Australia, and his sights soon turned international, appearing at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the New Zealand International Comedy Festival. In the last year, Chieng won the “Directors’ Choice” award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and “Best Show” at the Sydney Comedy Festival.

Chieng joins the current Daily Show cast of Jordan Klepper, Hasan Minhaj, Jessica Williams, Lewis Black, John Hodgman, Al Madrigal, Aasif Mandvi and Kristen Schaal, as well as two more newcomers announced today in Desi Lydic and Roy Wood Jr.

Chieng will be part of the cast when the first Noah-hosted show screens on September 28.
