Denim is back. Again.

Okay, so it never really went away -- but it's back in a big way this season.

The humble cotton twill textile has come a long way from its birth hundreds of years ago when it was used make sturdy workwear -- it’s now the off-duty uniform of men and women the world over.

Each season its reincarnation is slightly different -- from skinny leg jeans to denim flares. This spring denim knows no bounds -- being made into so much more than just blue jeans. Denim bikini, anyone?

Who better than Tash Sefton and Elle Ferguson of They All Hate Us to offer advice as to how to style this season’s new blues. After all, Elle’s denim short ensembles are arguably what made her famous.

What makes this season different? Distressed denim never goes out of style, however this season we see more fraying on edges and seams. Worn jeans in slimmer fitting styles are also popular. The denim jacket continues to be a favourite piece, this season in more oversized block shape. Flares is still very cool when worn right, and Australian women can't get enough of denim short and is a fav of both of us!

What styles of denim shorts will we be seeing?

Try them slouchy and worn-in, or try old school Levi cut-offs worn either fitted and high waisted, or super slouchy and boyfriend style. in classic blue washes or also really distressed.

Double Denim. Yay or nay?

We love double denim and even triple denim. It just looks cool. Try and wear the similar tone of blue -- then it looks right.

The classic denim jacket is back. What should it be worn with?

Wear around your waist on just on your shoulders. The slouchy the better. We also love a bandana under the collar and a brooch on the pocket to personalise it.

Any tips for pulling off denim flares?

Always wear flares with a heel. They are generally hard to wear unless you're really tall, so a heel makes you look longer and elongates the leg.

What is the best care for denim?

Not washing your jeans sounds gross but makes for much better fitting items. If you wash them a lot, hang them out inside out so they don't fade. Luckily, denim pieces don't need much TLC -- denim is the only thing that gets better with age and wear and tear.
