Sophia Rothfield is a 13-year-old kid who loves to skate.

And she just happens to be incredibly good at it.

She also doesn't fit the stereotypical mould of a skater, being a private school girl. But it's not something that fazes Rothfield. (Nor should it).

"None of my friends really skate. It's my own thing. I don't care, I don't like half the shit they do either," she said.

It's also a great example of what sport can teach kids. Determination most of all.

"I can't leave a trick. If I'm not going to get it, yeah then that's bitching it," she said.

It's never easy for girls in a predominately male sport, but Rothfield is adored by her best mate Joe who said she's better than most of the guys.

"She's real gnarly," he said.

Josh Van Lammeren from Evolve Skateboard was one of Rothfield's first sponsors.

He said with dedication, she has the makings to go all the way to the top.

"If she continues with that passion she has, then I think she can become one of the best female skaters in the world," he said.
