Australia's Test tour of Bangladesh is looking increasingly in doubt with no decision made and with players sent back to their home states on Wednesday.

The Cricket Australia security team, led by Sean Carroll, has returned from Bangladesh where it held meetings with cricket and government officials on Monday.

Australian coach Darren Lehmann says while it would be disappointing to not to make the trip to Bangladesh, player safety must come first.

Standing steadfast in its belief the tour will go ahead, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced the 14-man squad to play Australia in the first Test on October 9.

Every cloud has a silver lining though and Cricket Australia can look at the positives from this outcome: the domestic cricket season, which begins next week, will have a major boost to its ranks with the national players available for State representation.
