NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden joined Twitter yesterday, reigniting the debate over whether his leak of confidential security and intelligence data to The Guardian newspaper was justified or criminal.

On Thursday, legendary Twitter user Jon Hendren was invited on a U.S. television talk show and spent several minutes trolling the host by talking about Edward Scissorhands.

“Well, you know, to say he couldn’t harm someone ... well, absolutely he could,” Hendren said.

“But I think to cast him out, to make him invalid in society, simply because he has scissors for hands ... I mean, that’s strange.

"People didn’t get scared until he started sculpting shrubs into dinosaur shapes and whatnot.”

“Just because he was created on top of a mountain by Vincent Price, incomplete with scissors for hands and no heart.

"Edward Scissorhands is a complete hero to me.”

Hendren, who tweets under the handle @Fart, is a well-known online comedian and troll. One of his most notable achievements was convincing the singer of Smashmouth to eat 24 eggs for charity.

Somehow, he ended up on The Daily Share, a talk show on American cable channel HLN, to talk about Snowden joining Twitter.

You might be thinking, how does a guy best known for making the singer of a mediocre pop-punk band eat a whole bunch of eggs get a spot on a talk show to chat about privacy, security, morals and public interest?

Well, according to New York Magazine, they thought he was an Al Jazeera journalist.

“Unfortunately, [the] staff did not book John Hendren (@johnhendren), the Al Jazeera journalist, but rather Jon Hendren (@fart), comedian and troll,” NY Mag reports.

Esquire spoke to @Fart after the segment aired, where he seemed to be having a whole lot of fun with things.

As to why the show booked him, he replied “I honestly don't know. I got an email last night asking if I wanted to come on and replied immediately saying, "Yes I absolutely would," before I even read the entire email.”

“I was surprised that they didn't cut me off immediately, so I just kept rolling with it assuming at some point they'd hang up, and they never did for some reason,” he said.

John Hendren has commented on the mix-up.
