A Sydney man claims the city's changing public transport timetable caused him to hop on the wrong bus and end up stranded hours away in Canberra.
Sydney commuters have had to adjust to a whole new way of getting around the city, with the main artery of George Street closing to buses ahead of upcoming light rail construction. Public transport users braced for chaos but their fears proved unfounded, with a rather unremarkable and smooth transition to the new system.
Well, for most people, anyway.
A post on the Opal Card Confessions page claims one Sydney man mistakenly got on the wrong bus and instead of arriving home in the Hills district, woke up hours later.... in Canberra.
The post almost 9000 likes as at time of writing, but not all are buying it.
A woman claimed one could not mistakenly board a bus to Canberra, as the buses require special tickets: "You have to book a place on those buses to Canberra, they don't have opal card machines, and there's always someone standing outside the bus to check your name off. I don't believe this for a second."
Another wrote: "Only Greyhound and other tour buses go to Canberra from Central, on which you need to book a place. Load of crap story."
It appears to be one of few major criticisms of the new bus system, with most reports saying users have easily adapted to the changes; but, in an another post to the page today, it seems it isn't all smooth sailing.
