New Zealand Opera Trio, SOL3 MIO Perform New Single 'Jamaica Farewell'

The 'All Blacks Of Opera' Who Have Outsold Lorde

You’d be hard pressed to find another musical trio such as New Zealand's SOL3 MIO.

The upbeat, cheeky Tenor brothers, Pene and Amitai Pati and their baritone cousin Moses Mackay are best known for their ability to marry classical opera with pop music and have been doing a pretty good job of it since they formed in 2013.

Their self-titled debut album went seven times platinum in New Zealand, outselling the likes of fellow national treasure, Lorde, making them instant household names.

Their sophomore album, ‘On Another Note’ out on Friday sees the classically trained group cover Ed Sheeran's global hit 'I See Fire' as well as dishing up some tracks closer to their opera roots -- something they believe they didn't go as hard on in their first album.

"This album we're really breaking boundaries -- the first one we took the safer route to see what we could build up -- but this album is much more diverse," Pene Pati told The Huffington Post Australia.

The group, who are of Samoan descent have earned themselves the nickname the "All Blacks of Opera" back home -- fitting, since they all played rugby prior to their music careers taking off.

They also offered a moving version of the New Zealand national anthem when the All Blacks made history playing their first ever game in the United States, at the famed Soldier Field Stadium in Chicago.

In November, the trio will return to Australia to perform two shows in Melbourne and Sydney. For ticket sales head to ticketmaster.com.au.
