The Ski Instructors Who Have Spent 50 Years At Perisher

Can you imagine doing any job for fifty years? It just doesn't seem to really happen these days.

But Franz Pichler and Christian Keller this year celebrate 50 years of ski instructing at Australia's Perisher resort.

From Austria and Switzerland respectively, they indicated an innocent lack of understanding about the foreign country they were about to reside.

"I was going to Australia and the people in the village said, 'do they speak good German there?'," Pichler said

Franz Pichler and Christian Keller have both worked at Perisher for 50 years

The pair are the personification of passion. They ski because it means they spend their days playing.

"Speed is one of the biggest parts of enjoyment," Pichler said.

"Skiing gives you a bit of freedom, so long as you can handle those two planks under your feet you're right," Keller added.

The pair share that immense love of skiing, but equally share their positive energy with clients hoping to pass on the pure enjoyment of the sport and prove age is no barrier.

"Everyday when I get up in the morning instead of lying there waiting to die, I go up there and have a little buzz," said Pichler.

"I'd rather be outside, outdoors rather than in a workshop," Keller said.
