Why The World Is Going Crazy For The Balmain X H&M Collection

French couture house Balmain (pronounced bal-MAH-n, not like the Sydney suburb) has been around for over a century, though designer Oscar de la Renta is credited with bringing the brand into the luxury mainstream when he led the house between 1993 and 2002.

In recent years the label has been worn by Emily Ratajkowski, Miranda Kerr and too many Kardashians to mention, cementing its place on the Hollywood circuit (whether the french approve or not, we don't know).

While the incredibly intricate beaded pieces are works of art in their own right, it's the structured nautical-style blazers that are arguably the brands signature. The classic black double breasted style will set you back just shy of $3000.

It's little wonder then, that there is so much hype about the upcoming collaboration between the luxury label, currently creatively directed by Olivier Rousteing, and retail powerhouse H&M. The Balmain X H&M range is the latest in a successful line of designer diffusion lines, with the brand boasting previous lines by Alexander Wang, Isabel Marant, Marni and Versace (among others) of which many items are still doing the rounds on eBay.

The Balmain X H&M collection launched globally in New York City on Wednesday, with Kylie Jenner, Diane Kruger, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Alexa Chung attending the party and Gigi and Bella Hadid, Jourdan Dunn, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls walking the runway to celebrate the collection which will be available in around 250 stores worldwide starting November 5, 2015.

Here, a look at the collection and Australian prices.
