What's your favourite superpower? Flying, telepathy, freezing time or, for the creepy one in the group, invisibility, are all common tropes of Hollywood.
Regardless of your favourite, there's nothing more frustrating than seeing a character waste their supernatural gifts.
Here are four movies where characters don't make the most of their super skills.
1. About Time I know, I cried too in the scene with the dad, on the beach. But now is no time to let emotions get in the way of a superpower that is not used to full effect.
Our ginger-haired hero can go back in time and he just uses it to live life to the fullest. Win the lottery once, would’ya?
Sure, you've got an all-encompassing type of love that makes you cherish every second and glow from the inside out, but you could have NICER THINGS!
Isn't that what life's all about?
2. Cashback Dude can freeze time and he only uses it to hold impromptu life drawing sessions with shoppers in the supermarket where he works.
Here’s a crazy idea, how about you use your skills to get a job somewhere other than a supermarket!?
Why don't you become a superhero, or rob a bank or do literally anything else? He can barely use his time-freezing skills to convince this girl to date him.
3. Looper Joseph Gordon-Levitt can do no wrong. He rocks a prosthetic nose in Looper and still looks boss. And I have no beef with him in this film.
I've got issues with the 'mutants' that develop the ability to levitate stuff with their mind, and they only use it to do lame pick ups.
Surely if a portion of the population developed a genuine superpower, more would be made of it.
4. Birdman
I’m loathe to have a go at this brilliantly paced film but c’mon buddy, you have skills! You can move things with your powers!
You're not crazy, you can rule the world.
I think.
