Virgin Australia and Jetstar have grounded flights in and out of Bali after a volcanic eruption at Mt Rinjani on nearby Lombok.
Virgin has cancelled all flights for Tuesday and Jetstar have limited their services in and out of Denpasar airport due to the vast amount of ash cloud caused by the eruption.
In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, Virgin Australia said, “our team of meteorologists and the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre have advised that conditions in the vicinity of Denpasar Airport are not safe for flying”.
“A decision on tomorrow’s flights will be made once we have further updates from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre and this travel alert and our guests will be updated accordingly.”
Jetstar have confirmed in a statement, they have cancelled some flights and will continue to monitor the situation.
“We will continue to closely monitor the movement of the ash cloud and update customers if continued poor flying conditions lead to further cancellations.”
“At this stage, we are advising customers not to travel to the airport for flights to and from Bali and to closely monitor their flight status on Jetstar.com.”
Virgin have confirmed the following flights to and from Bali have been cancelled and are advising customers not to travel to the airport without a confirmed rebooked flight.
