In a Facebook post uploaded Monday, the Australian arm of the franchise shared a picture of a man in a tuxedo, drinking a slurpee with the caption: 'When pay day hasn't come but you want to spoil bae'.

The post has been widely panned in more than 1500 comments, as much for using the romantic abbreviation 'bae' as ridiculing underpaid workers.

Facebook user Darren Taljaard said "Pay your staff. Not in slurpees. You greedy, cheating, rorting, misbegotten creatures" while Chris Kaias said "What if payday hasn't come because you're illegally underpaying workers?".

A joint investigation by Four Corners and Fairfax Media in September showed staff at the franchise were allegedly being underpaid by half the award rate and suggested foreign workers were threatened with deportation if they spoke up.

An independent franchisee review is currently examining the claims, calling on current and former staff to come forward.
