Virtual Reality Video Camera 360fly Is Mounted On A Surfboard By Coastalwatch, And The Results Are Spectacular

Hello Future: Play With A New 360-Degree Camera Mounted On A Surfboard

When the guys at surf forecaster Coastalwatch got their hands on a new 360fly virtual reality video camera, they did what any beach-loving boardrider would do -- stick it on a surfboard and catch a barrel.

If you're using a Chrome browser, you can move the video's direction by swiping left, right, up and down.

Cool, huh?

Surfing World Magazine editor Vaughan Blakey caught the wave at Avalon on Sydney's northern beaches which is the first time the video camera has been used in Australia, and is featured on Coastalwatch's Line Up Of The Day.

The egg-sized dome holds a single-lens camera that simultaneously records 360-degrees -- like the cameras used to create virtual tours.

It retails at $649.95, is waterproof, can record two hours of continuous footage and will be available in Australia from November 16.

If you pair it with their virtual reality headset, or a pair of Google Cardboard glasses, the footage becomes a 360-degree immersive experience.

Christmas wish list, much?
