Drill Rig Hanging Over Cliff, Driver Trapped In Queensland Quarry Accident

A 20-tonne drill rig has overturned on the very edge of a quarry cliff north of Brisbane, with emergency services rushing to rescue the machine's trapped driver.

The machine's operator was working at a quarry site in Keperra, about 15 kilometres northwest of the city, early on Tuesday morning when it tipped and landed precariously on the lip of a cliff. The fall to the embankment below appears to be around 20 metres.

The machinery was initially reported to be an excavator, but was later said to be a drill rig.

Emergency services arrived at the Settlement Road site not long after, with multiple Fire Rescue crews on the scene trying to rescue the driver still trapped inside. Queensland Ambulance said the driver did not appear to be injured.

The Brisbane Times reports the drill rig weighs around 20 tonnes. Reports from the scene state rescue crews set up a vertical line to extract the driver.

The man was removed from the vehicle around 9am, with no injuries apparent, according to ambulance staff.
