Emergency services have said there are no survivors after a rescue team was able to access the crash site on Saturday.
Bishop said she was saddened to hear the helicopter, with seven people onboard, had gone down.
"My sympathies are with the families of the crash victims at this very distressing time.
"I am advised that the location and weather conditions at the crash site are difficult and full details of the crash are yet to emerge."
Bishop said she was in close contact with New Zealand authorities "as they respond to the crash and we will provide support to any affected families".
Poor weather is said to be hampering efforts to recover the bodies of those killed in the crash, which occurred in a remote part of the glacier.
Recovery teams are reportedly on standby on Sunday morning due to bad conditions, but authorities are hopeful progress will be made.
