Drake’s latest track, 'Hotline Bling' may have broken the internet and ignited a rapid-fire plethora of mashup memes but global streaming service Spotify has confirmed the rapper’s traction spans all of 2015.

The Canadian rapper, who made his debut Australian visit this year headlining Future Music Festival, had more than 1.8 billion streams and 46 million listeners.

His album, 'If You're Reading This, It's Too Late' wasn't the most popular album of year however, instead band The Weeknd's 'Beauty Behind the Madness' beat him to the top spot.

As for Australia’s most streamed song? Major Lazer’s 'Lean On' featuring MØ and DJ Snake. Across the globe, users hit play on the clubbing track over 540 million times this year.

Local talent, Sia took away the accolade for most streamed Australian artist both locally and internationally with her track 'Elastic Heart' taking out the most streamed Australian song of the year.

With both Adele and Taylor Swift refusing to post their music to the Swedish streaming service, Rihanna was the most popular female artist globally, despite having only released three singles in 2015.
