Now What: The Renewable Energy Oasis In The Middle Of The Oil-Rich Gulf

What We Can Learn From The Renewable Energy Oasis In The Middle Of The Oil-Rich Gulf

The global fossil fuel dependency is damaging in the short term, and unsustainable in the long term.

One of the world's largest exporters of oil, the UAE, has built a 'Green Oasis' in the middle of the Gulf in an attempt to force the hands of global energy consumption to change.

"We know that the demand for energy will keep growing, and we know that not once source can handle it," said Dr Ahmad Belhoul CEO of MASDAR, a technology company leading this energy change.

Accepting that supply and demand is interlinked, MASDAR not only design a variation of energy technologies but also a design for cities so that they can work off this renewable energy and switch their dependency from fossil fuels.

Masdar City in the UAE is run on a variation of renewable energy sources and is the world's first zero carbon city.

"Masdar is a green print for how cities have to be developed, and provides the best quality of life with the lowest impact on the environment," said Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany, Director of Sustainability at MASDAR.
