In an age where media tabloids thrive on pitting women against women, women against men and well, everyone against everyone -- it’s refreshing to hear a voice of reason.
On Wednesday that voice was Orange Is The New Black breakout star and Aussie cool girl of the moment, Ruby Rose.
In an interview with New York Magazine’s The Cut, Rose was asked to chime in on Jennifer Lawrence’s recent comments where she described her personal style as being “slutty power lesbian” in Glamour magazine’s February cover story interview.
“I hadn’t heard that quote until you just told me now. But what I do know is that Jennifer Lawrence is an amazing actress and an amazing advocate for women and women’s empowerment and the wage gap in Hollywood and so many amazing things,” Rose told The Cut’s Véronique Hyland.
Before further proving that a lot of the time when it comes to celebrity interviews things can get taken out of context.
“I think that is an easy quote to misinterpret or to pick apart. But I know that she has an amazing sense of humor, and for her to say that, I know that would never come from a bad place.
"She’s always spending so much of her time supporting other women and the LGBT community. There’s no way that she meant that with any kind of malice."
All class, Rose does what every single gossip site hoped she wouldn't do by offering Lawrence an olive branch.
Glamour touts its interview with the Oscar-winning star as being the “no filter, no B.S. interview of your dreams” and touches on everything from the pay gap, her outrage over the attacks on a Planned Parenthood centre in Colorado and the infamous 2014 nude photo hack.
Of course, it’s not the first time we’ve heard J-Law speak her mind and run into trouble, but as the Hunger Games star so rightly pointed out unfortunately, the reality is if you record her every spoken word, it’s not always going to be everybody’s cup of tea.
"I’m not trying to be a GIF. I’m not trying to be a picked-up-on-Twitter quote. All I’m trying to do is act," she told the magazine.
"I have to promote these movies. And I am, at the end of the day, I guess, a f**king lunatic. So if you record what I’m saying, it’s gonna be goofy. [Laughs.] I’m just a girl, sitting in front of the world and asking them to forgive her for speaking."
Rose, who recently ended her two year engagement with Phoebe Dahl has also proven in the past she's well and truly able to handle any type of shade thrown her way (like the time she ruled Twitter with her twinning with Justin Bieber pic and made light of the resemblance).
Thankfully, she’s also clever enough to apply some critical thinking to comments that aren’t worth the 456891 tabloid articles they generate.
