Southbound festival promoters, performers and festival ticket holders have banded together and remained positive in spite of the event's disappointing cancellation.

Organisers were forced to cancel the event due to dangerous bushfires raging through Western Australia but the Southbound Fire Fundraiser was swiftly established in lieu, featuring artists including local heroes Birds of Tokyo as well as mammoth UK acts Bloc Party and Disclosure.

In another positive turn, ticket holders have been overwhelmingly understanding and have even pushed for an option to fully or partially donate their refunds to aid bushfire efforts, something that is now being implemented with Moshtix.

"Thank you Southbound your support is amazing I know it will be a long hard road to cancel the event but your support for all those affected by the fire is amazing and to all those people who are donating their tickets," commented Trina Ziedas on the festival's Facebook announcement of the cancellation.

"Well done the victims of this tragic event will be forever grateful."

"After ongoing communications and information provided from the West Australian Police, Main Roads Department and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, we have no option but to cancel this year’s event." Southbound announced on its website.

"We cannot compromise patron safety and proceed knowing people’s lives are at risk getting to the event"

Southbound has also announced it will be donating all of the excess food on site to crews working to fight fires and others affected.

Promoters promised to release more information about refunds on January 13.

The Southbound Fire Fundraiser will take place on Sunday with tickets selling for $99.
