Five Australians from the same Adelaide family have died in a car crash near New Delhi in India, believed to be caused by a burst tyre.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed Anamika Dutta, 45, daughters Neetika, 12 and Pipasa, 15, and sister Sonia, 25, died at the scene, while her son Tirvijai, 20, died in hospital.

Anamika's father, NK Paliwal, and her husband, Rupendra Dutta, were being treated in hospital.

The Times of India said the family was on their way to visit the Taj Mahal when a burst tyre caused the vehicle to flip onto incoming traffic.
