Two Tales Of Hardworking Aussie Immigrants

Two Tales Of Hardworking Aussie Immigrants

Not since World War II has the world seen such a large migration of people as we did in 2015.

As communities around the world debate opening their arms to refugees, the stories of two Aussie migrants is celebrated in this documentary, The Migrant Merchants.

Emmanual Dakis and Max Stern are masters of their craft. Dakis, who came from Greece, is a respected tailor, while Stern, a Bratislava survivor of the Holocaust, owns the last stamp dealers in Melbroune.

While the film focuses primarily on the incredible contributions of immigrants, it also pays homage to the work ethic of the past.

"A lot of people say, 'where are you from?', and you say 'Australia', well no one's really from Australia," Ned Donohoe, Executive Producer of the documentary, told HuffPost Australia.

"We wanted people to sit back and reflect on how much harder life was back then. The idea of fun wasn't really a thing then.

"The idea we can go to a festival, take two days off each week, it wasn't really a thing in their time and I think a lot of people don't really appreciate how hard it was in the time and how hard it was to get here.

"We wanted to dedicate it to those people."
