Whether it's your crush's name or a keyboard dance your fingers do off-by-heart, your password is an intimate thing.

So it can feel a little intrusive when password management company SplashData releases their 25 most popular (and dangerous) passwords of the year, and yours is on the list.

They're dangerous because popular passwords are easy to hack so, if you have one of the following passwords, it's time to change it:

SplashData chief executive Morgan Slain said it was clear from the list cascading numbers or letters weren't a good idea.

“We have seen an effort by many people to be more secure by adding characters to passwords, but if these longer passwords are based on simple patterns they will put you in just as much risk of having your identity stolen by hackers,” Slain said in a statement.

“As we see on the list, using common sports and pop culture terms is also a bad idea.

"We hope that with more publicity about how risky it is to use weak passwords, more people will take steps to strengthen their passwords and, most importantly, use different passwords for different websites.”
