A decapitated kangaroo and a skinned rabbit have been found at a public BBQ site in Melbourne.
Police received reports from locals this morning of the kangaroo at a picnic area near a walking trail in Diamond Creek.
3AW caller Michael said he had been jogging on a nearby track when he noticed the police.
"There's a lot of families here," he said from the scene.
The head of the animal was located on a barbecue plate, whilst the body was found 60 metres away.
A skinned rabbit was also sited in an adjacent playground.
Diamond Creek police are investigating the case and are urging members of the public who have used the walking track in recent days to come forward with any information.
