The aftermath of a boozy Australia Day was felt far and wide on Wednesday but the morning commute to work was eased with a hilarious video posted by Triple J showing the moment its Hottest 100 winners for 2015, The Rubens, realised they’d taken out the top gong.

The video was posted to the radio station’s Facebook page and showed the five-piece completely losing their shenanigans as hosts Matt and Alex reveal Kendrick Lamar’s ‘King Kunta’ as the number two song -- leaving their song ‘Hoops’ as the only alternative for the number one spot.

While ‘King Kunta’ was a frontrunner for the coveted number one spot, supporters of homegrown music were beyond wrapped with the news. As were the The Rubens themselves as squeals and swearing filled the triple j studio with one member announcing he was “going to f***ing pass out”.

Triple J had invited the Sydney band into the station for the countdown however did not reveal why they’d been chosen to come in.

The band followed suit sharing the video to their Facebook, writing "the bastards invited us in but wouldn't tell us a thing".

The band previously made the top 10 back in 2012 with their song ‘My Gun’ taking out the tenth spot, the same year Macklemore’s 'Thrift Shop' claimed number one.

According to ABC News, more voters than ever cast their ballots this year.

"We received about 2,094,000 votes from 298,851 people," Triple J's content director Ollie Wards told the ABC.
