Love. Ain't it grand? It comes in all shapes and sizes, and no two loves are the same.
The Huffington Post Australia celebrates love in all its forms with the How We Met series in the lead up to Valentine's Day.
Audrey Ward, 84, John Ward, 87
How long have you been together?
Together for 66 years and married 60 years.
How did you meet?
Audrey: We met in Ulverstone, Tasmania. John was working as a painter. I was the receptionist at the local hotel. I saw him working one day and he looked like a nice young fellow. I asked one of our mutual friends how I could meet up with him. There was a dance night on that week at the back of the town hall. I had to chase him, but the rest is history!
John: I was painting the local bank and Aud worked nearby. She apparently liked the look of me, we went to a few dances before anything was official.
What drew you to them?
Audrey: He was the new boy in town, with a lovely Scottish accent and a nice manner.
John: Aud's smile. She was quite the catch.
What do you like most about them?
Audrey: I'd like to say his sense of humour but after 66 years, the most important thing is to know how blessed we are. I wake up everyday next to the father of my 5 beautiful children. We are so very lucky to have our health and each other.
John: Her generous nature and kind heart.
What is your favourite memory?
Audrey: When the kids were younger, I had been away for a few weeks to care for my mum. I had a late flight home and got stuck in the pouring rain, I walked in the door at midnight and the first words John said to me were 'Thank god you're home! We're out of toilet paper and oranges!'
John: What can I say? Home just isn't the same without her.
What is your secret to long lasting love?
Audrey: Always remember the little things the other person likes.
John: It's important not to sweat the small stuff.
