Top Queensland Cop Dies On Way To His Retirement Lunch

One of Queensland’s top police officers has died on the way to his own retirement lunch.

Detective Inspector Rod Kemp was a widely respected investigator who reportedly led some of the state’s biggest murder investigations.

Brisbane Region Assistant Commissioner Bob Gee said Inspector Kemp had been due to retire after 37 years as a police officer.

"Rod was the complete gentleman who took the time to listen and care for people. He touched the lives of many as an experienced leader and investigator."

RIP Detective Inspector Rod Kemp. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.

"The public will remember him from when he led major homicide, abduction and crime cases in Brisbane," Assistant Commissioner Gee said.

"He reached the top of his game professionally and had the respect and admiration of all his colleagues, and more importantly, the wider community."

"My thoughts and the thoughts of the entire police family are with Rod’s family and friends at this difficult time."

Inspector Kemp was reportedly on his way to his own retirement lunch when he died from a suspected heart attack on Friday.

His last official day of work was meant to be the following Thursday.
