In the vein of Kevin Rudd and Joe Hockey on Sunrise, Innovation and Industry Minister Christopher Pyne and Shadow Immigration Minister Richard Marles are television's latest political odd couple.

Emphasis on odd, judging from this video.

'Pyne and Marles' is the newest segment on Sky News, with the Liberal and Labor foes meeting on air to debate the big issues of the week. At least, that's how it's supposed to go. Not like this.

This clip surfaced on Thursday, unearthed by SBS journalist Drew Sheldrick. In the snippet, allegedly from the second instalment of the segment earlier this week, there appears to be some technical issues as Marles and Pyne -- in separate studios, on separate cameras -- stare right down the barrel of the camera, blank expressions on their face, apparently not aware that they are live and rolling.

A full six seconds pass before Marles twigs, giving a stilted intro to the show and seemingly forgetting the name of the show.

"Welcome to.... welcome to Pyne and Marles," Marles starts.

Not a great start. Even worse when you forget your own name.

"I'm..... I'm Marles. And he is Christopher Pyne."

Not to be outdone, Pyne himself waits another six seconds before answering.

"We've got a very active show today," Pyne says, apparently unaware of the delicious irony, considering the very inactive introduction to the show.

Better luck next time, fellas.
