Nigella Lawson Does Not Care For Fruit Juice, Not One Bit

Nigella Lawson Reveals How To Sexy Up Your Veggie Juice

Nigella Lawson has squeezed many mouth-watering recipes into her latest cookbook, Simply Nigella: Feel Good Food but a fresh fruit juice is not one of them.

The queen of cuisine revealed her disdain for fruit in liquid form to HuffPost Australia’s editor-at-large, Lisa Wilkinson when she was in Australia to promote her new book.

“I think juicing is the devil. I cannot see the point in getting all the sugar from fruit and not having the fibre,” Lawson said.

That said, she does enjoy vegetable juices -- especially when she’s writing.

“When I did the book I didn’t want to be ‘hangry’ but it’s very hard to write about food on a full stomach, so then I would live on Nutriblasts and I quite enjoyed working out different flavours to put in,” Lawson said.

“I don’t do much fruit, I do an awful lot of fennel and ginger and in fact now I keep turmeric in my freezer,” Lawson said.

She explained she keeps organic frozen spinach and broccoli in her freezer to throw into the juice and basically anything that’s green.

“And then I do a bit of coconut milk yoghurt or a bit of peanut butter because I feel I can’t just exist on vegetables, I need a bit of protein and fat,” Lawson said.

As expected, the cookbook author is able to make even a simple juice sound creamy, delicious and (who knew!) appetising.

This is the fourth course in a six-week HuffPost Australia degustation feast of Nigella in Lisa's kitchen.
