It’s certainly not something you see every day -- the former Liberal premier of Victoria and current chairman of beyondblue donning a pair of knee-high leather boots.

However, that’s exactly what Jeff Kennett has done as part of a community partnership between beyondblue and the upcoming musical Kinky Boots.

The skin tight boots almost looks as though they have been photoshopped onto Kennett’s body but he has assured us that they were most definitely not.

“They were tight,” he told The Huffington Post Australia.

“I didn’t mind getting into them but they were at least two sizes smaller than my feet. I had to be squeezed in.

“Suffice to say you won’t be seeing me wear these to work any time soon.”

The musical follows the true story of a man who struggles to keep his family’s shoe factory alive, until he meets a drag queen who gives him the idea to create women’s shoes for men.

It has been a hit on Broadway, collecting six Tony awards and has a score written and composed by musician and LGBTI activist Cyndi Lauper.

Kennett believes that the partnership will inject vital funds and public interest into beyondblue, especially its Stop Think Respect campaign which challenges Australians to check their behaviour, think about their actions and challenge discrimination when they see it happening.

“We have a very strong partnership with the LGBTI community throughout Australia,” he said.

“We have been running programs particularly aimed at young men who are often more homophobic, more discriminatory than others.

“We continually find ways of refreshing our programs so the message doesn’t get lost and partnering up with Kinky Boots has done just that.”
