If you can name one of the eight Australians who have won an Oscar so far this ceremony, you deserve a gold statue yourself.

The Academy Awards are barely underway and already we've smashed last year's tally of three Australian winners.

You could say the academy has gone mad for us.

Mad Max that is because every Aussie winner so far worked on 'Mad Max: Fury Road'. So familiarise yourself with the Aussie stars worth celebrating.

Colin Gibson -- Best Production Design

Gibson designed the bus in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Enough said.

Lesley Vanderwalt -- Best Makeup

On Mad Max makeup, Vanderwalt this week told Vogue: "When you work with dirt, you use it almost as a shader, sculpting the face with it a bit. You don’t purposefully do it, or it looks very fake. You do a little spot here, or smudge there. Artfully applied dirt, we call it."

Artful dirt... we can get behind that.

Lisa Thompson -- Best Production Design

If you've seen confronting Australian classic Romper Stomper or the film adaptation of Hating Alison Ashley, you've seen Lisa Thompson's work.

David White -- Best Sound Editing

It's hard to Google someone called 'David White', but from what we can tell, he was part of the production team behind lovable animated film Inside Out and the sci-fi TV series Farscape.

Margaret Sixel -- Best Film Editing

Sixel was born in South Africa but she lives in Australia and if we have to claim Russell Crowe, we better claim her too! She's also worked on Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet.

Damien Martin -- Best Makeup

Martin specialises in prosthetics, and has played a part in creating Jim Henson's Creature Shop and Star Wars space monsters.

Ben Osmo -- Best Sound Mixing

You may have heard of Osmo becasue he recieved an honorary Australian Centenary Medal in 2001 and has won several AACTA Awards. He worked on The Sapphires, Charlotte's Web and heaps more.

Elka Wardega -- Best Makeup

The Matrix, The Hobbit, Moulin Rouge! -- Wardega's got all the credits. It might be time we pay more attention to these brilliant, talented people.
