Here's a mindfulness technique you'll actually want to do -- because it involves chocolate and it only takes 10 minutes.

Dr Michael Mosley makes it his business to share the latest in scientific research about staying healthy and among the gems of wisdom he passed on at Sunday's All About Women event in Sydney was this genius mindfulness technique.

"I'm actually a very high stress individual so I wanted to find something that would help me sleep better and actually calm things down, and one thing I found was mindfulness," Mosley said.

"This is kind of an ancient Tibetan and Buddhist idea but it’s obviously been refined into something you can do in 10 minutes rather than going off to some monastery and hanging around for six years because nobody’s going to do that.

"There’s apps you can get for it but it’s essentially taking time out of your day -- literally 10 minutes -- in which you kind of sit and you try not to think about all the things you usually think about."

According to online youth mental health service ReachOut, mindfulness is "about training yourself to pay attention in a specific way" to help cope with everyday life or deal with tough times.

One shortcut to quieting your mind is chocolate.

YOU WILL NEED:

One piece of chocolate

10 minutes

Step one: Put the piece of chocolate on your tongue

Step two: Try to keep it there for 10 minutes.

That's it. As Mosley said: "You just kind of savour it."

"Mindfulness is also about trying to get reconnected to your body.

"It’s about small moments."
