AUSTRALIA-Queensland-WHITSUNDAY COAST-Hamilton Island: Golfcart transport

A one-year-old baby is among three children and four adults being treated for injuries after two buggies collided on Hamilton Island.

A CQ Rescue spokeswoman told The Huffington Post Australia two helicopters had arrived at the Queensland tourist island, about 800km north of Brisbane, and it was not yet known whether patients would be taken to hospital in Mackay or Townsville while a third helicopter had been requested.

The baby was reportedly being treated for leg injuries with Queensland Ambulance classing five people as serious and three as stable.

As well as those involved in the crash, an eighth man passed out after witnessing the scene and was also treated by paramedics.

The incident reportedly happened about 8.30am on Thursday when two buggies hit, causing one to roll over.

The island has very few cars and buses, with most visitors travelling in golf cart-style buggies.

Last December a man received medical treatment on Hamilton Island after sustaining a head injury in a buggy crash.
