The bodies of a woman and a young boy believed to be her son have been found at Maroubra Beach in Sydney's south.

NSW Police were called to a nearby cliff face about 8.30pm on Thursday night "following concerns for the welfare of a mother and child".

A crime scene was established and a NSW Police statement said initial investigations suggested there were no apparent suspicious circumstances.

"No one else is being sought in relation to the incident," the statement said.

The beach was also the location where a baby's body was found in November 2014 which was not identified, but the baby was adopted posthumously and named Lily Grace.
