Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has hit out at fans who displayed an anti-Islam banner at the MCG, saying those responsible should be banned from football for life.
Far-right group the United Patriots Front were identified on the banner, which was unfurled during the second quarter of Friday night's match between Collingwood and Richmond.
"Go Pies Stop The Mosque," the banner read.
MCG security guards removed the banner and those responsible for it from the ground, before the UPF posted a photo of their work on Facebook along with the caption "MCG. Aussie Pride."
McGuire called for a life ban for the culprits.
"I hope the police got their names and numbers, if they've got anything to do with our club they'll be banned," McGuire said, according to Fairfax Media.
"Get these people and make an example of them, they should be banned for life."
AFL spokesman Patrick Keane also condemned the offensive behaviour and said police would be consulted on the matter.
