America Discovers ‘Empire of the Sun', Only Eight Years Late

It was 2008 when Australians got their first taste of the Apple iPhone, witnessed cinema magic as Heath Ledger became “The Dark Knight” and spent the summer dancing to Empire of the Sun’s debut hit single, “Walking on a Dream.”

Fast-forward eight years and Americans are only just catching up to the musical talent of Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore -- the duo that make up ARIA-winning electro group, Empire of the Sun.

After their track “Walking on a Dream” featured on a recent Honda Civic ad, Americans are going nuts for the catchy tune, sending it into chart territory with many questioning where the Aussie group has been all their life.

And if being invited to perform on The Ellen Degeneres show wasn't enough, the track has topped Billboard’s + Clio Music’s Top Commercials chart for two months running.

To take advantage of the track's revived success, Steele and Littelmore have even released a new music video filmed with all that late-2000s nostalgia, capturing the duo touring the song across the globe.

According to Littlemore's Twitter account, a new record may also be in the works, too.

While almost a decade is a long time to reach mainstream success in America, it's sure a major win for the Aussie music community right now -- not only because we get to smugly gesture "told ya so."

We'll wait idly by for American airways to be blessed with the rest of our musical talent.
