Police have arrested a man after the bashing death of his former partner with a cricket bat in Sydney's south on Sunday afternoon.

51-year-old Stephen Boyd was arrested at Braidwood, in the New South Wales Southern Tablelands, after a police chase on Monday afternoon.

The man has been treated for minor facial injuries and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.

Emergency services were called to Beachcomber Avenue in Bundeena about 3.30pm on Sunday where they found the body of a 51-year-old woman inside a home.

A 17-year-old boy at the home was taken to Sutherland Hospital to be treated for injuries to his arm.

Police say the man left the area in a silver Holden Commodore.

The State Crime Command's Homicide Squad and local police have established a crime scene and are investigating the death.
