St George Illawarra NRL coach Paul McGregor has been arrested for drink driving after allegedly recording a blood alcohol level of 0.063, Seven News reported on Thursday. The NSW limit is 0.05.

The 48-year-old was reportedly pulled over by police in Wollongong on Sunday morning.

McGregor was appointed coach of the Dragons in 2014. Nicknamed "Mary", he was a high-profile player for both the Illawarra Steelers and later, St George Illawarra Dragons (after the Steelers and St George Dragons merged).

The Dragons have two home grounds -- Sydney's Kogarah Oval and Wollongong's WIN Stadium. However the training base is in Wollongong, which is where McGregor was arrested.

Channel Seven's chief league reporter Josh Massoud broke the story.

"Police have confirmed that McGregor was picked up for drink driving on Sunday around 8:45 am in Wollongong. McGregor was pulled over at a roadside test. He blew over the limit," Massoud reported.

"He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he recorded an alleged reading of 0.063. He was later charged with low range drink driving. A court date is to be determined."

McGregor has been in the news a lot this week. On Monday nights the Dragons beat the Sydney Roosters 20-18 in a spiteful clash, after which McGregor reportedly had a heated exchange with Roosters counterpart Trent Robinson, after Robinson claimed Dragons players feigned injury

McGregor reportedly verbally lashed out against Robinson.

“It was a sign of a frustrated man to be honest after the game,” McGregor said at his weekly press conference on Wednesday.

But league bosses will now be frustrated with McGregor. It is understood the drink driving incident had not been reported to the NRL Integrity Unit at the time Channel Seven broke the news.
