Our deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce is one of the true characters in the federal parliament, and while Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten and Richard Di Natale have been criss-crossing the country on a hectic, sleepless campaign trail, Joyce has been having some fun out west.
Joyce, the leader of the Nationals, never seems short of a good time, and never seems too far from the pub. They're calling it the "wombat trail", Joyce's campaign through country areas of the nation.

Not long after, it was back out west for the annual City vs Country rugby league fixture, long seen as a try-out for the NSW State of Origin team.

The next day, it was time to zing the zingmaster with a zinger of his own.

Then, off to announce some funding for the Midnight Basketball, a sports league aiming to give kids a positive outlet for their energy and give them good role models.
Next up, time for a photobomb.
And then quickly squeeze in an announcement about millions in funding for the cotton industry.
Later, off to the pub for a well-deserved drink.
Before stopping in at a northern NSW tea plantation, for a quick walk amongst the crops.
Then it was back to the pub, to jump on top of the bar and address the crowd.
Later, he dropped by the races to chat with some ladies at the Scone Cup.
Then stopped in at the markets, with just enough time to lay a zinger on deputy Labor leader Tanya Plibersek too.
Judging from his social channels, Barnaby has been having an absolute cracker of a time out on the trail.
