Election 2016 Campaign Watch: Handshakes, Photobombs And Parrots

Your daily election wrap, because we care.
Bro-shake.
Fairfax Media
Bro-shake.

Welcome to Campaign Watch, HuffPost Australia's wrap-up of all the election silliness, social media, snafus and stuff-ups. We're at day 12 of a 54-day campaign.

Wrap it up

Missed the best bits of this week? Let our video editor Tom Compagnoni break it down for you:

Bird brains

It took 12 days but we finally got a wacky protester in a silly animal costume. Someone dropped in on the Prime Minister when he visited Launceston, calling for more protection and attention for Swift parrots.

A pug's life

Colourful senator David Leyonhjelm has released what we reckon is easily the weirdest ad of election 2016, where he gets two pugs (representing "Mal" and "Bill") to eat a cake, meant to represent superannuation. Check out our story here.

Mal-content

This tweet doesn't need much explanation. Let Fairfax photographer Andrew Meares take over:

Fresh Prince of Bill-Air

On the other side of the coin, here's Labor leader Bill Shorten getting cool with the cool kids while out on a street walk in Penrith, in western Sydney. Who knew Bill possessed such handshake skills?

We checked in with Barnaby Joyce last week for an update on what he's been up to during the campaign, but unfortunately we missed this one. So here it is. Enjoy our deputy Prime Minister totally ruining ABC reporter Lucy Barbour's attempts at a piece-to-camera.

There's HOW LONG left?!?

Don't expect these #AusVotes stories to stop any time soon...
