With torrential rain forecast for Australia's Eastern Seaboard this weekend, it's likely more than half of the population will be in lockdown, forcing many to commit to trackpants and hot chocolate whether they like it or not.

The good news? With subzero temperatures and gusty winds comes one thing: an entirely FREE day (or two) to do whatever you please. So, depending on which way you look at it, this might just be your most productive (or cosiest) weekend yet.

Here's how to make it work for you.

1. Have dessert for breakfast

Let's face it: the thought of getting out of your fuzzy socks right now to line up at the new brunch place in town just isn't an option. Instead treat yourself to fluffy, chocolatey pancakes. Or perhaps some Apple and Blueberry Crumble would suffice?

2. Take your bed to hotel-comfy levels

If ever there was an acceptable time to crawl back into bed, it is now. Though, don't just dump on a few extra blankets from the cupboard for extra warmth. Add textures, layers and cushions to make your bed feel extra luxurious this weekend.

3. Give your face some love

Winter skin is a special thing: dryness, flakes and rough spots. Yep, whether male or female your skin needs extra TLC during the colder months. With that in mind, here, one of France's top facialists explains how we should be cleansing our skin.

4. Get rid of those underarm stains

You've been talking about doing it for ages, so why not nip it in the bud today. It's easy, promise! This 3-ingredient mixture will get rid of them, for good.

5. Get smart

Don't worry, Netflix ain't going anywhere -- and neither are you. In between checking Snapchat and Instagram, download these free apps. They WILL make you smarter.

6. Prep snacks for the week

There's never been a better time to get crafty in the kitchen and these cinch and delicious snacks can be prepped ahead to feed you (guilt-free) for the following week. Did somebody say chocolate bar?

7. Life admin (that won't drain your soul)

Since you're stuck in the house, you might as well make your surroundings beautiful by doing some light cleaning and admin. These 10 habits (with respective time allocation) will change your life, and clean your house in the process without sending you down a rabbit hole. So long, junk mail and full inbox.

8. Adapt your cheese consumption to the weather

By now you've probably cracked open the wine. Why not? It's the damn weekend! But instead of whipping up your regular cheese platter, try baking your Brie instead. Yes, you read that right. This dish is practically made for warm day/nights in.

9. Still cold?

Make your own heat pack. Or perhaps you're ready for a cuppa and a long soak in the bath. You've had a busy day. Here, five DIY detox bath recipes that will cleanse and calm your body.

10. Order in

If you forgot to stock up on the essentials (chocolate! wine! food for dinner!) get acquainted with these five delivery services most of them, available in all capital cities. While you're waiting, get schooled in Netflix's new releases. You're welcome.
