Celebrities remembered sporting legend Muhammad Ali as "the greatest of all time," as they rushed to pay tribute on social media over Friday night.

The 74-year-old died at a Phoenix hospital on Friday, a family spokesman and Ali's official website confirmed. The heavyweight boxing great had long suffered from Parkinson's disease and spent his last few days being treated for respiratory issues.

Ali's funeral is set to take place in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The city plans to hold a memorial service for him on Saturday, The Associated Press reports.
