"Homeland" has always been acutely aware of the political climate from which the series takes its inspiration. The Showtime thriller, however, will inch closer to reality more than ever before by featuring a female president-elect in the new season.

On Tuesday, the same day Hillary Clinton officially became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, "Homeland" star Claire Danes revealed at a Q&A panel with executive producer and director Lesli Linka Glatter that Carrie Mathison will have to answer to a new commander-in-chief.

But before you start drawing the inevitable comparisons to Clinton, Variety notes that Danes made sure to emphasize that the character is "kind of a composite of all of the different candidates and a kind of – not rebellious necessarily – but she's challenging norms and is a little threatening for that reason." Danes also added that the president-elect “gets along with Carrie Mathison pretty well.”

Season 6, which Showtime recently delayed until 2017, will pick up in the period between Election Day and the inauguration, creating a disruption for Carrie and company.

According to a Showtime press release, the new season will begin during "a strange, transitional time in the halls of government filled with anxiety and different competing interests, where a very fragile and complex transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect."

Strap in, Carrie.
