A man has been taken into police custody after holding up two men inside a Redcliffe home north of Brisbane.

The siege ended without loss of life or injury after almost nine hours, as the man reportedly gave himself up to police after specialist police were brought in to negotiate.

Earlier Monday, Inspector John Hallam reported that police negotiators were talking to the male and were hopeful that they would succeed.

Hallam added that when police first arrived at the house on Monday morning, they identified at least three people in the home, however one had since been released.

"When the officers arrived on the scene they were threatened by what they believed was a homemade firearm," he said.

"An elderly gentleman has since been released and is now with us...he is safe and well."

Roads surrounding the home were closed during the incident as a precaution and those travelling in the area asked to avoid it.
