Mick Fanning Surfs J-Bay For The First Time Since Shark Fright

He was a little anxious before the first wave.

Surfer Mick Fanning has had his first wave at J-Bay, here he was jostled by a great white shark during the World Surf League semi final last year.

In a video created by Rip Curl, he said he'd been keen to return.

"Obviously J-Bay's a really special place for me," Fanning said in the video.

"I was always gona' come back and surf. I had so many great memories here."

Understandably, he said he felt nervous before paddling out.

"I went and had a look and then sort of like a little bit of anxiety sort of came up and a few different emotions but once I got the wetsuit on and got the board ready and paddled out, It was pretty much fine.

"Once you catch that first wave, you know, you realise it was a one-off incident... hopefully.

"You just get on with it and go surfing again."
