From prepping dinner to deciding on an outfit, why is it that during the colder months everything seems that little bit harder?

For many, a quick scroll of Instagram can serve as a motivator to cook a new recipe, try a new look or even revamp a bedroom. Of course, it can also lead to falling into a deep stalking vortex and losing hours of your life, but we tend to take the more optimistic approach.

In an effort to simplify what's trending this season, from winter-warming meals to accessories worth your time, we've compiled the items you're most likely to find on your Discover page.

Happy scrolling.

1. The faux fur jacket

The most instagrammable staircase ever at @_madebyself_ Treatments are deluxe too.

Fake fur is having a major (non-grandma) moment. What was once the outfit of choice for freshly-turned-18 club goers is now doing the rounds among Australia's most stylish.

2. Barista art

Unbelievable. I specIFically requested bemused and arrogant.

It's cold and the only thing better than a piping hot cup of coffee? A piping hot cup of coffee with froth art.

3. The oversized denim jacket

Just a tad cheeky 🤗 👻😼

Invest in one yourself from a local op shop or steal your dad's #ontrend.

4. Suede boots

not a bad spot to sit and edit video on a rainy Monday.

While everyone rocks their black leather boots, stand out from the crowd with suede. Even better: they are practically made for blue denim.

5. Moody artwork

Spoilt. Thank you @vickileelee @tedodonnell this is 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Match the weather with your interior, because sometimes bright is boring.

6. Loafers

When hanging with your bestie and you look the same same but different 💙💙@elle_ferguson LOL

Banish your heels and swap them for comfy flats, inspired by the man in your life.

7. The woolen hat

The sun may have gone into hiding, but that doesn't mean you're completely safe from the harsh Australian rays. Plus, a classic Panama hat doubles as an ear-warmer.

8. Nutella oats

This is not a drill: Instagram's #fitspo community have given us the greatest gift of all -- a low-GI breakfast (oats) oozing with chocolatey goodness (courtesy of the Nutella gods).

9. Cosy activewear

The difference between good and bad activewear? The comfort factor. Whether you're pounding the pavement or deep into the latest season of OITNB, cosiness always comes first.

10. The backpack

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make me wear winter appropriate outfits. 😜 #barelegsalways @forevernew_official #forevernewstyle

A photo posted by Ally May Hayward - Substance (@substance_blog) on

The grown-up backup takes us back to our youth, when the new school year was just around the corner. The good news? With so many sleek styles on offer this season, the two-strap makes the perfect addition to your 9-5 wardrobe.

11. Nourish bowls

Whoever said healthy was boring hasn't seen a nourish bowl. Wholesome, warm and full of nutrition, it's 2016's answer to chicken soup.

12. The stylish sweater

Kimono vibes.. ➰Layered with @bonlabel #minimal #belted #kimono #neonrose #bonlabel #linesmanner

Sometimes when you've exhausted all of your knitwear, you just want to wear a sweater. And this belted number allows you to do just that, with style.
