It wasn't long ago many Australians were revelling in the news we'd be getting our own homegrown spin off to the infamous comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway? on Foxtel's Comedy Channel.

But the month-long wait for the cast announcement has been well worth it, with New Zealand comedic genius Rhys Darby announced in the mix on Tuesday.

The Flight of the Conchords star who needs little introduction will be joined by a delightful mix of comedy festival favourites Cal Wilson, Steen Raskopoulos, TeganHigginbotham and Susie Youssef along with newcomers Bridie Connell and Tom Walker.

And yes, there are four female names there. So yes, the cast IS made up of more than fifty percent women.

Melbourne comedian Tommy Little, who was announced as the host last month, seemed pretty damn thrilled about his showtime companions, calling the cast a "merry bunch of dickheads".

So here's what you need to know about each of them.

Cal Wilson has been on the comedy scene for more than two decades and needs very little introduction, having appeared on the Aussie silver screen for Spicks and Specks, Thank God You're Here and many more -- with sold out stand up shows too.

Steen Raskopoulos' comedy shows have scored nominations for 'best newcomer' in Edinburgh and 'best show' in Melbourne.

What a merry bunch of dickheads. #whoselineaus

Tom Walker trained in Paris at the same acting and clown school as Sacha Baron Cohen and Emma Thompson and won 'best newcomer' at the 2016 Melbourne Comedy Festival.

The youngest of the cast, Tegan Higginbotham -- who is still in her twenties -- has been on the comedy show scene for more than a decade along with appearances on Spicks and Specks and Thank God You're Here.

And Bridie Connell is the god damn triple threat who can act, sing and dance who is a regular at The Chaser's Giant Dwarf Theatre. Of course she won a scholarship to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York too.

Melbournians are in for a treat, with the show filmed in front of a live audience and hitting screens in the coming months.

And just because we can...
