Sammy Ndjock Of Minnesota United's Really Embarrassing Own Goal

'Guys don't make mistakes on purpose, but that was calamitous.'

All of us have one moment in life we wish we could take back. It's safe to say this guy just had his moment.

The poor fellow in question is Sammy Ndjock of U.S. soccer team Minnesota United, a team which plays in the second tier of U.S. football. Ndjock is a 26-year-old Cameroonian who has plied his trade in America since 2015 after starting his career in France and Turkey.

Overnight, Ndjock's Minnesota United were taking on English Premier League side Bournemouth FC in a friendly match. Ndjock, you'd have to say, got a little too friendly. Here it is one more time. Because life is brutal.

With ball in hand, the hapless goalie tried to propel it to a teammate by way of an overarm throw. That didn't go so well. Instead of looping across the penalty box, the ball seemed to slip out of his hand. It slammed into the ground. Slowly, tragically, it trickled goalwards.

The horror. The sheer indignity. The cruelness of a cold, uncaring universe and the tricks it plays on us all.

Want to know what the worst part is? The worst part is that his team then mocked him. Like things weren't embarrassing enough. To Ndjock's great credit, he went along with the joke, even if he looked like he'd rather chew a bowl full of nails.

Yep, the great goalkeeping gaffe was all due to the jelly (jam) on his hands from his sandwich in the locker room. That's right up there with the cat eating his homework.

But this story isn't over. There was another, almost equally inept moment, in this match which Bournemouth won 4-0. Here it is. Watch and wince.

"Guys don't make mistakes on purpose but that was calamitous, very tough to take, I'm sure for Sammy as well as us," Minnesota manager Carl Craig said of Ndjock's blooper. "Yeah, that's a tough one."

In a fascinating twist, Craig used to play in punk bands and once toured with Chumbawumba. You know this line is coming, right? Sammy Ndjock got knocked down, but he'll get up again.
