Commonwealth Bank customers have vented their frustrations on Monday evening after the bank's Netbank and CommBank apps crashed at about 3:30pm.

The cause of the system outage, preventing many Commonwealth Bank customers from accessing their bank accounts was identified and restored on Monday night at 9pm.

"All services have now been restored and Commonwealth Bank apologises to all our customers affected by this issue and we thank them for their patience," a Commonwealth Bank spokeswoman told The Huffington Post Australia.

Earlier on Monday, a Commonwealth Bank spokeswoman confirmed the outage was under "urgent investigation".

"We are aware some customers are currently experiencing intermittent issues accessing NetBank and the CommBank app," a spokeswoman told HuffPost Australia.

"The cause of the problem is under urgent investigation and we are working to have full services restored as a matter of priority.

"Our ATMs and EFTPOS services are available and not affected by this issue. We apologise for the inconvenience to customers and thank them for their patience."

However the outage, affecting the Netbank online banking system and Commbank phone app, left many Aussies turning to Twitter.
