Myer has brought a whole new meaning to the saying 'give a little, get a little'.
As of Monday, when the department store launched the Give Registry, you give a little, they give a little and a woman escaping domestic violence gets a lot.
Well it might not seem like a lot, but whether it's a towel, a pair of sheets or a coffee cup, it means a damned lot to many Australian women starting over after escaping violent homes (as Myer's powerful campaign below points out).
One in six Australian women have experienced physical or sexual violence from a current or former partner while one in four women have experienced emotional abuse by a partner or former partner.
They are some numbers Myer is hoping to help change, with the help of their customers.
Launched by Myer Ambassador Lauren Phillips on Monday, the Give Registry mirrors a traditional gift registry with a number of pre-selected "essential items" for a woman beginning a new life free from violence.
When you buy an item on the Give Registry, Myer will donate the same product, and both will go to The Salvation Army's women crisis accommodation and women's refuges.
The items range from just over $10 to $120.
Myer CEO Richard Umbers said he was proud to lead a company helping victims of family violence in a practical way.
"Myer is standing up to family violence and we know that our customers and team members feel very passionately about this worthy cause," Umbers said in a statement.
"The Give Registry means that we can work together with our customers to help make a difference in these women's lives."
